On April 7, the second issue of the bilingual magazine Architecture Snob will be available in Empik stores. The quarterly devoted to architecture and design focuses on the topics of social and environmental responsibility in design.
The theme of the issue is love, and the articles were closed on the eve of the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. We have only managed to mention the fact of an invasion by Russia in the introductory text. And although at first glance the articles contained in “Architecture Snob” may seem inadequate to the current situation, in fact, in the pages of the second issue, we talk about values that are extremely needed today.
The magazine opens with a conversation with professor Ewa Kuryłowicz, with whom we talk about empathy as the most important skill that architects should have. Today, when we use all possible resources to provide shelter to people fleeing war, it is clearly visible how important is architecture created with mindfulness directed at people, adaptable to their needs. We see the need to design public spaces in relation to possible crises and changes, but above all, to the basic needs of users.
Ewa Kuryłowicz’s words echo in the thoughts and attitudes of almost all people who appeared in the second issue of Architecture Snob. We talk about the love and work of an architect with couples who share their private and professional lives: Dorota Sibińska and Filip Domaszczyński, Elizabeth Diller and Ricardo Scofidio, Tomasz Konior and Dominik Koroś, Marie-Hélène Fabre and Didier Faustino.
In the new “Architecture Snob” we are continuing the discussion with Krystyna Łuczak-Surówka and Zuzanna Skalska about Polish design. In it, the interviewees point out the need for a different approach to design – oriented towards solving problems and making life easier, and not on generating new nice items.
Today we know that we are facing new challenges, because the process of social changes initiated by the migration of people fleeing the war in Ukraine brings with it a number of challenges for Polish design and architecture. We are still discussing the climate catastrophe and how we can counteract it. The magazine includes, among others talks with Aleksander Krajewski, who talks about natural architecture, or Anna Vonhausen, who reveals the details of the pro-ecological metamorphosis of the VANK brand.
